Adults with the ability to facilitate adult groups and good teaching methodology are needed to lead classes 1 ½ hours to 2 hours per week. Catechists must be active Catholics and have knowledge of Catholic doctrine & practices. Training is required.

OCIA – CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS AND CHILDREN

“Go and make disciples…” OCIA, the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is for those 7 years old and older.  OCIA is an awesome, life-altering journey to Jesus through immersion in God’s Word, the teachings of the apostles, prayer, the community of faith and the power of the Holy Spirit.  Through reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, a person gives witness to God’s kingdom of love and service in their lives. The team is comprised of people deeply in love with Jesus. They recognize the importance of a personal and communal relationship with our Lord and Savior and desire to help others discover the joy of this relationship. There are many ways to share your gifts in this ministry, as a catechist (echoing or teaching the faith), dismissal leader (breaking open the Sunday Scripture), small group facilitator, hospitality, prayer leader, retreat planner, musician, or sponsor. Volunteers can work with adults, teens or children in English and/or Spanish. Time commitment varies depending on the role. Training is provided for this very rewarding ministry.

Catechist/Catechetical Aide

The Faith Formation department offers year-round opportunities for children’s religious education. We are always looking for Catechists to teach religious education to children in preschool-4 through 8th grade across various faith formation programs.  Catechetical Aides assist the lead catechist in the classroom. Adults and high school students with a love for children and knowledge of basic Catholic beliefs and a willingness to share the Catholic faith with children may serve as catechists/aides.  A background check and VIRTUS training are required prior to assisting in classrooms with children. Catechists and aides are afforded opportunities for ongoing formation and a minimum of basic catechist certification is a requirement to lead. Opportunities for formation and preparation are available online and in-person, and our staff is always willing to work with you to find programs and opportunities that fit within your schedule.
