Spiritual Life

Africa in Christ

Africa in Christ is a continental umbrella  organization that helps enhance liturgy by harnessing and distilling the strength of African cultures. We are charity in action, and seek to address African's similar but unique needs from a spiritual standpoint knowing that with God all things are possible. We therefore serve Him through our neighbors with the Spiritual and Corporal Work of Mercy. We seek to empower members with the education that frees from cultural bias and fosters a sense of responsibility for the well-being of society. In accordance with the Mission of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, we work with all whose goals align with ours.

African Council

The African Council is comprised of all the leaders of African and African American ministry groups who are dedicated to spiritual growth within the parish community at large. Its purpose is to provide a communication venue that develops unity and promotes collaboration between member groups.

Blood of Jesus Group

Prayer Group that practices "Devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ."

Catholic Men's Fellowship

The Catholic Men's Fellowship consists of men gathering in prayer, giving witness to their faith through their lifestyle- through example of their lives in everything they say and do- in order to "transform the world one man at a time."

Emmanuel Prayer Group

This is a charismatic prayer group which gathers the French speaking parishioners for prayer. Some goals include welcoming newcomers and helping them integrate into the parish life and promoting evangelization.

Ephphata Charismatic Prayer Group

The purpose and goal of our ministry is to bring the children of God together to experience the Holy Spirit who opens us to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ and the love of the Father. To encourage the awareness and the experience of the full role of the Holy Spirit among Catholic Charismatic Renewal groups which leads to inner transformation, and most importantly to foster the dynamic grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit (Act 1:5) which empowered the members of the early Church at Pentecost. We also assist in leadership development as well as serving in key parish committees such as African Council, Pastoral Council, and other ministries.

Eucharistic Adoration (24 Hours)

Lay Carmelites

Prayer Line

With expectant faith and community prayer, the Lord said we can move mountains. The prayer line is an opportunity to share in the power of prayer.

Secular Franciscan Order (SFO)

The SFO is for lay members who have the desire to live more fully a Gospel way of life in imitation of St. Francis. Professed members are not called to leave their world (families, friends & jobs), but to transform it through shared prayer and Christian service. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. There are three stages of initial formation: a) Orientation, 3-6 months (exploring the SFO through discernment); b) Inquiry 6-9 months (looking at the process of becoming a member of the SFO); and c) Candidacy, 1-2years (journeying with the fraternity to find out if God is calling you to live the Franciscan Way of Life.) Formation times may be extended but not shortened.
